RNA Oligonucleotide Consultant

Part or full-time consultant on the development of RNA oligonucleotide-based drugs, with an emphasis on the regulatory and analytical requirements for such drug development.
Need: Part or full-time consultant on the development of RNA oligonucleotide-based drugs, with an emphasis on the regulatory and analytical requirements for such drug development.
  • Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry, or pharmaceutical development
  • Ten+ years of experience in the development of RNA oligonucleotide-based drug products
  • Expertise, experience, and knowledge in:
    • The various forms of RNA oligonucleotide-based drugs, including DNA/RNA, modified nucleotide bases, aptamers, antisense, siRNAs, etc.
    • Programs, methods and data analysis required for such drug development, including LC-MS/MS and HPLC-UV analysis for Pharmacokinetic (PK), Toxicology (Tox), Biomarker, Bioavailability (BA), Bioequivalence (BE), DMPK/ ADME, and other bioanalytical studies, per FDA/ICH/EMA guidelines.
    • Ability to troubleshoot complex assay and instrument issues, conduct and advise on method development or method transfer of customized, robust, and highly sensitive chromatographic assays using necessary sample preparation such as Protein Precipitation (PPT), Liquid-Liquid Extraction (LLE), Solid Phase Extraction (SPE); and design and direct drug and biomarker bioanalysis in a variety of species and biological matrices (whole blood/plasma/serum, urine, tissue homogenate, etc.).
    • Requirements for data and analytics in CMC and pharmacology sections of IND applications.

Duties:
  • Assist in the design of experiments, perform experiments, collect data and perform data analysis in support of drug discovery and development objectives.
  • Maintains a detailed daily log of research activities in a laboratory notebook
  • Report scientific findings through write-ups and presentations, including graphical or statistical analysis and the preparation of figures and tables for reporting.
  • Assist Research Scientists with reviewing and responding to regulatory requirements for all studies
  • Assist laboratory personnel in conducting and evaluating/interpreting experimental results, developing conclusions. In this capacity, trouble-shooting and training are essential duties accomplished through detailed knowledge of research laboratory procedures and practices.
  • Assist Lab Manager in maintaining and optimizing equipment.
  • Assist, as needed, in the performance of other related duties and special projects
Minimum Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in molecular or cellular biology, biochemistry, chemistry, or a related field
  • Candidates should have previous experience with general research laboratory techniques, in particular tissue culture, qPCR, DNA cloning, protein analysis and/or cell-based assays
  • Previous laboratory experience in cancer and/or immunology research is a plus
  • Candidates should have a demonstrated track record of high quality and timely data generation and excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Successful candidates should be detail-oriented and comfortable working in a fast-paced, small biotech company
  • Candidates should be able to manage multiple projects efficiently
  • Previous experience in the biotech industry is a plus

Duties:
  • Design and conduct experiments, collect data and perform data analysis in support of drug discovery and development objectives.
  • Develop and perform biochemical and cell-based assays for target validation
  • Design and produce novel oligonucleotides for evaluation of phenotypic activity
  • Maintain a detailed records of research activities in an electronic laboratory notebook
  • Present results of research including writing reports/summaries for internal communications as well as patents and scientific papers for publication.
  • Contribute to the R&D team’s capabilities by identifying and implementing new technologies and platforms for drug discovery and development
  • Utilize genomics-based tools for new target identification and validation
  • Review scientific, clinical, and patent literature to support ongoing projects
  • Assist, as needed, in the performance of other related duties and special projects
Minimum Qualifications:
  • A PhD in molecular or cellular biology, biochemistry, chemistry, or a related field
  • Experience in cancer biology and/or immunology is a plus
  • Candidates must have previous experience with cellular and molecular biology techniques, especially tissue culture, qPCR, DNA cloning, and cell-based assays
  • Previous experience in either image-based cellular assays, gene silencing or CRISPR techniques is a plus
  • Knowledge and experience in nucleic acid methods, chemistry, aptamer development and SELEX is desirable
  • Candidates should have a demonstrated track record of high quality and timely data generation and excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Successful candidates should be detail-oriented and comfortable working in a fast-paced, small biotech company
  • Candidates should be able to manage multiple projects efficiently
  • Previous experience in industry is a plus
  • Candidates without a PhD but with extensive relevant experience are also encouraged to apply
